CBS Will Come To Their Senses”: Tom Selleck Still Hopes Blue Bloods Will Be Saved

Despite CBS previously confirming that Blue Bloods will end with season 14, star Tom Selleck still believes the show can be saved. The final season is scheduled to air in two parts, with the 10-episode part 1 currently airing, while the 8-episode part 2 will begin in October. This has led to a campaign to save the series, an effort shot down by CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach, who said the show would be ending for good this year.
However, speaking with CBS NewsSelleck maintained faith that Blue Bloods season 14 will not be the end of the show, insisting that CBS is going to change its mind. Citing just how successful the series continues to be after almost a decade and a half on the air, he thinks the show has a strong chance of continuing beyond its planned ending point. Check out what Selleck had to say below:

Well, that’s a good question. I will continue to think that CBS will come to their senses. We’re the third-highest scripted show in all of broadcast. We’re winning the night. All the cast wants to come back. And I can tell you this: we aren’t sliding off down a cliff. We’re doing good shows, and still holding our place. So, I don’t know. You tell me!

Will Blue Bloods Actually Get Renewed For Season 15?

CBS Has Shut The Door, But The Cast Remains Optimistic

Blue Bloods ending with season 14 is surprising, as the series continues to maintain an audience of around 5 million live viewers every night. While this level of success is lower than other CBS shows like Tracker and NCIS, its viewership is higher on average than continuing series like S.W.A.T. and FBI: Most Wanted. The series’ status as a familiar part of the channel’s lineup also makes the fact that it’s ending all the more surprising. However, the confirmation and split season make it seem like this decision can’t be easily reversed.

Despite Selleck’s positivity for the series to continue, Reisenbach’s statement last week indicated the network’s future plans don’t have room for Blue Bloods season 15 in its lineup. With the new NCIS: Origins and a Young Sheldon spinoff set to air in their 2024-25 TV schedule and a Fire Country spinoff confirmed for 2025-26, it seems the long-running police series won’t have any room to continue. However, S.W.A.T. was also renewed for season 8 despite season 7 being announced as its end, meaning a similar fate could meet the contested show if the right conditions are met.

While Selleck is continuing to maintain faith in Blue Bloods’ future, it appears nothing is guaranteed about whether the series will actually continue past its planned ending. It’s also possible CBS goes in a different direction, deciding to pursue a spinoff of the show or a continuation of the story under a different title. However, neither would guarantee a return for cast members hopeful for its future. For now, it seems like there’s still a waiting game in effect for whether season 14 truly is the end.
