Gordon Ramsay issues health warning after undergoing cancer surgery

Gordon Ramsay has issued a health warning after undergoing surgery to remove skin cancer.

One in five Americans will develop skin cancerbefore the age of 70, with 9,500 people in the US receiving the diagnosis each day.

Melanoma is the deadliest form of the cancer, though there are other forms of the disease that are a cause for concern.

Celebrity chef Ramsay took to Instagram on Saturday to reveal that he had surgery to remove a basal cell carcinoma, a type of skin cancer.

The Brit shared a photo of his bandaged face on social media, which was applied to the side of his jaw underneath his ear.

A second photo revealed what was under the bandage: several stitches in place after the surgery.

Ramsay wrote: “Grateful and so appreciative for the incredible team at The Skin Associates and their fast reactive work on removing this Basal Cell Carcinoma thank you!

“Please don’t forget your sunscreen this weekend. I promise you it’s not a face lift! I’d need a refund.”

Cancer Research UK took to the comments section of Ramsay’s post and penned: “Glad to hear you’re doing well, Gordon, and thanks for raising awareness of how important it is to stay safe in the sun.

“Seek shade, cover up, and apply sunscreen regularly and generously.”

Basal cell carcinoma usually ‘appears as a slightly transparent bump on the skin’, according to Mayo Clinic. It typically appears on areas of the skin that are exposed to sun, including the neck and head.

The cancer typically appears as a change in the skin, like a growth or a sore that won’t heal.
