Prince Harry and Meghan Markle extend olive branch as Royal Family faces health crises

Meghan Markle is said to be keen to rebuild her relationship with the Royal Family, but the Firm is ‘not willing to consider’ a sit down at this time

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle find themselves navigating a delicate path in their attempts to mend fences with the Royal Family during an already challenging 2024.

The Royal Family has been grappling with serious health concerns, as both King Charles and Princess Kate have been diagnosed with cancer and are undergoing treatment, placing Queen Camilla and Prince William under immense pressure. An insider confided to Express.co.ukthat while Harry seems ready to let bygones be bygones, Meghan is keen on a heart-to-heart with the Royals. The source revealed: “Harry is more willing to move on, let’s just say that. It’s not a case of Meghan being difficult, she genuinely feels hurt and would like some kind of sit down to hash things through – but that’s not something the other side is willing to consider at this time.”

Princess Kate’s illness has put added pressure on prince william

Despite the tensions, it’s understood that the Sussexes reached out to Kate in private after hearing about her illness in March, and they also shared a public note of solidarity, reports the Express. Their public statement read: “We wish health and healing for Kate and the family, and hope they are able to do so privately and in peace.”

Since Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal duties in 2020, the number of active senior royals has dwindled, with only William and Kate, along with the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, carrying out official roles for those under 70. However, despite the slimmed-down monarchy, a return to the fold for Harry and Meghan appears unlikely in the near future.

An inside source shared: “Harry and Meghan are expecting an apology and so are senior members of the Royal Family. It’s got to the point now where both sides can’t see where they’ve gone wrong and there’s no meeting in the middle. It’s a stalemate.”Since their departure for the US, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been somewhat aloof from the rest of the Royal Family, focusing on raising their kids Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet Stateside. The Atlantic separation from their extended family has been a poignant issue for Prince Charles

Royal commentator and author Tom Quinn offered his insights, highlighting the King’s plans to allot some time to travel to California in order to bond more with his younger son’s family. He detailed to The Mirror: “Charles has had discussions about an official visit to the United States at some time in the future, and there is no doubt if it goes ahead he would build in time to visit his youngest son and his grandchildren, but there are mountains of planning to be overcome before that becomes even a remote possibility.”

“He is desperate to see them and hates the idea that Archie and Lili will not remember him as the warm friendly grandfather he wants to be.”
