PARIS, July 17 — Britain’s Princess Diana and her former sister-in-law, Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson, arrived in the south of France on Wednesday for a holiday with their children, police sources said. They said Diana and her sons, William and Henry, and the duchess of York and her daughters, Beatrice and Eugenie, arrived aboard a private jet at Cannes-Mandelieu airport on the Riviera, and were immediately whisked away in three limousines.
The motorcade left the airport in a westerly direction, but group’s ultimate destination was unclear. The sources said plane had been due to fly to the
Riviera’s main airport, in Nice, but was diverted to the small facility at Cannes-Mandelieu, used only for private flights, to avoid press photographers. The trip comes two days after Diana was granted a preliminary decree of divorce from Prince Charles, the heir to the British throne. Diana is reportedly set to receive a lump sum of some $17 million as part of the divorce package and will keep her title of princess, but will no longer be addressed as Her Royal Highness. On Tuesday, she resigned as head of almost 100 charities. The duchess of York recently finalized her divorce from Charles younger brother Prince Andrew.
