Did Princess Diana actually have an affair with Barry Mannakee?
Whether she had an actual physical relationship with Barry Mannakee or not has long been contested by many different parties.
There is no doubt that Barry Mannakee was by Princess Diana’s side as her bodyguard. It also seemed clear to many people around the Princess that the relationship with Mannakee had become inappropriate.
In 1985, he became a bodyguard to Diana, Princess of Wales.
In 1986, he was transferred to Diplomatic Protection Group based in central London
He died tragically in a car accident in 1987 at forty years of age.
Princess Diana Was A Tortured, Lonely, And Love Starved Person
The beloved Princess Diana was a very tortured person.
She realized early in her marriage that her husband was not in love with her, or didn’t really like her.
As a result, she looked for love and attention from other men in her life, including Mannakee.
In a tape, the late Princess Diana made with her voice coach she revealed more about Barry Mannakee than previous interviews Diana had given, although she never mentions him by name.
“I just, you know, wore my heart on my sleeve. I was only happy when he was around,” she said.
Diana described his death as “the biggest blow of my life”.
After his death, she visited the area where his ashes were scattered and laid flowers. She also said she had dreams about him.
“I should never have played with fire and I did and I got very burnt,” Diana said in the video.
Bonding Over A Fishing Hook Accident
At one point Mannakee took care of Diana when a fish hook got caught in her eyelid. That situation seemed to seal their friendship and emotional connection.
It seems highly likely that Princess Diana had a mental and emotional affair with Barry Mannakee.
Whether it ever transitioned to a physical or sexual relationship is also highly contested.
Princess Diana Believe Mannakee Was Killed By Sinister Forces
Shortly after 10 pm on 15 May 1987, Mannakee was killed when the Suzuki motorbike he was riding as a passenger, driven by a fellow police officer Steven Peat, crashed into a Ford Fiesta.
The Ford was driven by 17-year-old Nicola Chopp, who had passed her driving test six weeks earlier, in Woodford, north-east London on the A11 road.
Mannakee’s Spine Was Broken In Two Places
During the accident, Mannakee was catapulted into the rear side window of Chopp’s car and died almost instantly after breaking his spine in two places. Peat and Chopp both survived.
An inquest into Mannakee’s death concluded it was an accident.
Conspiracy Theories Regarding Mannakee’s Relationship With Diana
Conspiracy theories emerged surrounding the death of Mannakee, due to the fact he had been replaced as Diana’s bodyguard after a suspected affair between the two.
It has also been reported that some of Mannakee’s family believe that the security services were behind his death.
It was a tragic end for a man Diana had loved deeply according to her own words.
