Shocking details of Prince Harry, Prince William’s ‘secret teen club’ revealed
Prince William and Prince Harry enjoyed their teenage years in a secret ‘club’ located in the basement of their father’s estate.
They made the most of their father’s absences to revel in their newfound freedom. King Charles permitted his sons to transform a bomb-proof room in the basement of Highgrove House into a ‘dungeon disco,’ complete with a sound system and a well-stocked drinks trolley.
This secret hideout was known as ‘Club H.’
According to royal author Robert Lacey in his 2020 book Battle of Brothers, “Club H turned Highgrove into quite the hotspot whenever Dad was away—an increasingly frequent occurrence. At the time, Charles was focused on his campaign to gain public acceptance of his relationship with Camilla Parker Bowles.”
“In his absence, 16-year-old William — already a steady drinker — and his younger brother ‘relaxed’ intensively. Club H had been very much William’s inspiration, with his older friends largely setting the social pace for Harry.
If Prince Charles did happen to be at home, the two brothers and their friends could all pile out together to The Rattlebone Inn in the village of Sherston five miles away.”
Harry himself wrote about Club H in his tell-all memoir. “It was windowless, but the brick walls painted bone white, kept it from feeling claustrophobic,” he detailed in Spare. ”
Also, we kitted out the space with nice pieces from various royal residences. Persian rug, red Moroccan sofas, wooden table, electric dartboard. We also put in a huge stereo system. It didn’t sound great but it was loud.
A well stocked drinks trolley in the corner ensured there was always the faint aroma of booze, but this was offset by the smell of fresh lavender and honeysuckle brought in from his father’s famous garden through a big air vent.”
And while Club H was a popular hangout with their friends at the weekends, sometimes it was just Harry and his brother.
They played games, listened to music and relaxed – they regarded the Cotswold bolthole as the one true haven where they could escape the paparazzi. “Willy felt the same,” Harry said. “I often thought he seemed more at peace down there than anywhere else on earth.”
