Tyler Perry’s awkward silence when grilled about Meghan Markle and Harry

Tyler Perry’s ‘tense’ take on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Tyler Perry gave a notably tense response when asked about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle during a recent interview with The Sunday Times.

Known as one of the most influential figures in Hollywood, the 55-year-old filmmaker is a close friend of the Sussexes, having famously opened his Californian home to the couple in 2020 as they transitioned to life in the U.S.

When asked how he helped prepare Meghan and Harry for their move to America, Perry shrugged off the question, saying, “I didn’t.”

He continued, “Meghan is from California. She knows California well. So there was nothing to prepare them for.”

Perry, who has grown even closer to the couple over the years, is now the godfather to their daughter, Lilibet, adding a more personal connection to their friendship.

Despite the seemingly curt response, the Hollywood mogul’s bond with the Sussexes appears as strong as ever.

Known for his close friendship with the Sussexes, Perry, who famously opened his home to them in 2020, explained that his bond with Meghan and Harry has become a media spectacle.

When asked why the public’s curiosity about the couple was so intense, Perry retorted, “You’re from the UK, you tell me,” before adding, “I will say this: what I learned about mentioning them—because there’s this insatiable appetite to know all about them—is that any question asked becomes the headline of anything I say.”

It was clear during the conversation that Perry was keen to avoid further discussion, prompting the interviewer to note that it was “clearly time to cut to the next scene.”

Despite this, Perry’s friendship with Meghan was on full display just last week when she supported him at The Paley Honors gala in Beverly Hills, showing that their bond remains strong, despite the media frenzy.
