Saturday’s Grand Final is coming up and the artists are deep in rehearsals. In the meantime, why not revisit the spectacular interval acts from the Eurovision 2024 Semi-Finals?
After tough competition at the Semi-Finals in Malmö, the line up of the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 Grand Final has been decided. In addition to performances from all the competing artists, over the week we’ve seen show-stopping numbers from very special guests. We know how brilliant the class of 2024 are, and now we’re taking a moment to put the Semi-Final interval acts in the spotlight.
Let’s take it from the top!
First Semi-Final
It’s an indisputable fact that Johnny Logan and Eurovision will be together till the end of time. And as the only other two-time winner of the Eurovision crown, who better to reimagine Loreen’s Euphoria? It’s a song that normally has people up and dancing, but for this performance Johnny turned it into a touching ballad.
Johnny has won the Contest twice for Ireland in both 1980 and 1987, with the songs What’s Another Year and Hold Me Now. And Loreen is of course the reigning Eurovision champion, equalling Johnny’s double win when she took the trophy for Sweden with Tattoo in 2023. Her first win was in 2012 with Euphoria, performed here by Johnny. We love a perfect Eurovision royalty pairing.
There’s nothing like an all-out Eurovision interval party. Benjamin Ingrosso got the memo, and he delivered. He put on a dance-rock party with a medley of his songs Look Who’s Laughing Now, Kite and Honey Boy. There was colour. There was dancing. There was Benjamin Ingrosso. And he raised the Malmö Arena roof.
Benjamin had the whole of Europe on their feet in the 2018 Contest, when he performed Dance You Off for Sweden and finished in 7th place. He brought good vibes then, and he did it again in the 2024 Semi-Finals.
Second Semi-Final
Eurovision karaoke is always a good idea, and the 2024 Second Semi-Final brought us the World’s Biggest Sing-Along. Hosts Petra Mede and Malin Åkerman opened the number, and soon welcomed three Eurovision icons onto the stage – Helena Paparizou, Sertab Erener and Charlotte Perrelli, who have all won the Contest for their countries.
The three superstars performed their winning songs. Helen opened the act with her winning song for Greece in 2005, My Number One, followed by the song Sertab got the crown for Türkiye with in 2003, Everyway That I Can. Charlotte rounded up the trio of anthems withTake Me To Your Heaven, which she won the Contest with for Sweden in 1999. And for anyone who hasn’t found time over the last couple of decades to learn all the words, the lyrics were displayed across the LED screens and as subtitles for viewers at home.
Don’t be angry with Sweden, they can’t help but win! Three-time Eurovision host Petra Mede opened the showdance number in the Second Semi-Final, and apologised to the world through song with We Just Love Eurovision Too Much.
She was joined on stage by a series of special guests – 1999 winner Charlotte Perrelli, EBU Spokesperson Lynda Woodruff, Finnish artist (and 2023 runner up) Käärijä and the Moomins. We repeat, the Moomins.
First there was the Swedish Smörgåsbord, then there was Love Love Peace Peace and now the trio is complete.
