Monica Bellucci says she doesn’t want daughters to be ‘full of hate’ for men after #MeToo

The #MeToo movement has sent ripples through Hollywood since 2017 – but Monica Bellucci has urged caution, at the same as praising its important legacy.

In a new interview, the Italian actress, 57, has revealed that she doesn’t want to raise her daughters to be “full of hate” for men.

Speaking to The Sunday Times’ Style magazine, she said: “We have come a long way, and today we have the courage to say things because there are women that did this before us.

But at the same time I don’t believe in a war between men and women, I think we have to find a common ground of communication

“I don’t want to teach my girls to be full of hate, it doesn’t bring anything. We have to find a way to talk.”

The #MeToo movement was founded in 2006 by activist Tarana Burke, to raise awareness of women who had been abused, but it gained moment in 2017 with the Harvey Weinstein exposé.

Bellucci is mother to Deva, 16, and Léonie, 11, with her ex-husband, the French actor Vincent Cassel, who she was married to from 1999 to 2013.

Opening up about the ageing process, she insisted that she now puts her children’s needs first before her own.

She said: “You change, like when your baby comes into the room, you see that the first thing is her. We come in second.”
